The details are the design
The details are not the details. They make the design.
Nobody has ever complimented us on a hairline rule, a hover state that eases instead of snaps, or the two pixels of optical correction on a headline. Nobody notices those things one at a time. People notice their sum, and they experience the sum as trust.
The Eames studio was famous for treating a chair's underside with the same care as its silhouette. On a website, the underside is the loading state, the focus outline, the error message, the way a button feels on a cheap phone. Places most visitors will see only once, and only when something is going slightly wrong.
Details are also where budgets go to die at bigger agencies, because details don't demo well in a slide deck. A studio this small has an unfair advantage here: the person who cares about the detail is the person building it. Nothing gets lost in the hand-off, because there is no hand-off.
The last five percent of a build takes a stubborn amount of time and produces the entire difference between fine and finished.
